Life Support

2 Chronicles 34:31 “…He pledged to obey the LORD by keeping all his commands, laws, and decrees with all his heart and soul.” These were the words of King Josiah following the discovery of the Book of the Law of the LORD by Hilkiah the priest in the Temple. It had been forgotten after many years of neglect, disobedience and all out rejection. When King Josiah heard the Word of God he was totally humbled, even shaken and repentant. He decided to be all in as reflected in his promise  “keeping all his commands…with all his heart and soul.”

I received a very disturbing text at around 11 pm a few weeks ago concerning a man I’ve been discipling. It read, “Hey Keith, Shawn is on Life Support. That’s all the details I have. I will let you know when I know more.” WOW! Needless to say, I had a tough time sleeping that night. Many prayers were said on his behalf that night. He is one of the guys I’ve been pouring into for the last two years. He made it through the night and I got to visit him the next morning. Sadly, he had overdosed on heroin. He has quite a history and that was a part of it. He was literally shaking, his muscles moving involuntarily, while in Critical Care. I praise God, because at present, he is doing well, humbled and even more committed to following the Savior!

I remember Professor Howard Hendricks saying, “There is no such thing as a blowout, only slow leaks.” We don’t just out and out reject God’s Word, we start by neglecting it. When Josiah became king, Israel was on life support. There is no better daily Life support than that which we receive from a loving God, through His Word and our obedience to it. A main element in the Great Commission of Matthew 28 is verse 20, “Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.”(NLT)

Thank you for your “Life Support!” Sorry, I couldn’t help myself…anyway we do depend on our Lord using people like you to support us by means of prayer, encouragement and gifts. This is a battle and these lives are worth fighting for!

Please Pray!

  • for our protection from the enemy

  • for our family

  • for those to whom we minister

  • for ministry plans, local and/or overseas (Haiti, Togo, West Africa)

  • for financial support

Love from Above, Keith & Penny
