Like a Kid in a Candy Store

Penny and I were recently with our youngest son Eric, (aka Bucky) visiting the local mall for a bite out. As we strolled through the mall (one of my least favorite things to do), my son asked me to go with him to a candy store and after some persuading, I did. It seemed like it had been many years since I’d been inside one. Once I gave myself permission “to just look”, I was amazed at the selection of both old favorites and newer sensations. It took me back to the “good ol’ days” when as a little boy, my mom would take me to visit Kresge’s or Woolworth’s and I would leave with two things, a big smile and a bag of Cherry Sours! So, once again, I felt like a kid in a candy store!

I remember as a young man having the privilege to meet with a retired president of a Bible college. Now, 35 years later, I still remember him saying, “Keith, I’m 73 years old but when I read my Bible, I feel like a kid in a candy store!” Wow, that’s where I want to be. I truly am discovering, the more I am in God’s Word, the more I enjoy it. The more I am in it, the more I see things I haven't seen before, and the more He reveals to me about His gracious heart and my sinful one. As we know, His Word is the key to life here and life hereafter. God’s Word is the bottom line. May I be like David, in his passion for the Word of God. In Psalms 119:103, he writes, “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” - Like a kid in a candy store!

This is one of the main reasons why I do what I do. I am passionate about helping men walk with their God and this starts with being in the Word of God, daily.

Please pray:

  • For Penny, my hard-working and devoted wife

  • That I am the real deal at home first, then to others

  • This weekend as I preach in a church in Coralville

  • For 2 men I’m working with, and that their marriages would survive and thrive

  • For 3 pastor friends who need encouragement and wisdom

  • That God would help me as I help others to be excited about His Word

  • The men I disciple develop a heart to help other men

  • Praise for the friends who support us so graciously each month

  • Praise the Lord for the privilege of knowing and serving Him

We are so thankful for you!
